Caloocan City recorded a string of killings in the month of September as police vowed to increase visibility and intensify preventive measures against crimes.

According to a “Stand for Truth” report by Ian Simbulan on Tuesday, the stabbing of three nursing students in north Caloocan was among several killings logged this month.

Caloocan police said the victims were allegedly killed by construction workers working on the house where they were staying.

Meanwhile, a post by netizen Leo Sy also went viral this month as he provided details of the brutal killing of his girlfriend inside her apartment in Grace Park.

Sy said the suspect knocked on the victim’s door twice, pretending to be looking for a certain person.

When the victim answered the door the second time around, the suspect stabbed her repeatedly.

“Binukas ng girlfriend ko ‘yung pinto, do’n niya na po sinaksak sa mukha then sa leeg. Hindi niya po tinigilan… talagang sinaksak niya nang sinaksak saka pa lang niya kinuha ‘yung gamit,” Sy said.

The suspect has since been nabbed by the police.

On Tuesday, the remains of a certain Christian Nierra was also found floating on a river in Caloocan.

The victim bore head wounds. Police are still investigating the crime.

The Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar reported that the crime rate dropped by 47 percent during months where quarantine restrictions were enforced.

“While it is true na ‘yung murder case natin is bumaba ng 21 percent during this community quarantine natin, pero still, talagang may nangyari pa ring krimen kaya nga dagadag sa ating police visibility and preventive efforts para ma-commit itong crime na ito ay gano’n pa rin,” he said.

"Bawat isa sa atin ay may responsibilidad na alagaan ang ating sarili," he added.
