Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno on Friday announced the suspension of classes in all levels, both in private and public schools, in the city on January 9, Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Work in the city government's offices is also suspended, Moreno said.

On the other hand, the suspension of work in the national government offices and private companies holding offices in Manila is upon the discretion of the management of their offices, the mayor added.

Moreno inked Executive Order No. 01 series of 2021, stating that "the suspension of classes will not only give the parents and students the time to participate in the religious activities, but will also give them full access to the use of internet and gadgets and follow activities at home and avoid crowding in churches."

Liquor ban will also be implemented in the city, the local government said.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Jenny Tecson, spokesperson of the NCRPO, earlier told reporters that the liquor ban would begin at 12 midnight of January 9.

"Manila area only, hindi po ang buong Metro Manila. Kung saan po ang lugar na pagdadausan ng Feast of the Black Nazarene," Tecson said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
