Taguig City on Wednesday was lauded as a "model city" for its response against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Lino Cayetano was elated for this recognition, noting that the local government has been strictly implementing health measures and quarantine protocols.

"We are really happy that Taguig can be considered a model city because we strictly enforce rules, listen to experts, and work closely with the national government," Cayetano said in a press release.

"We really want to be a model city in terms of cooperation, unity, and execution," he added.

During the launching of the city's vaccination centers, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said the city is an inspiration to other local government units when it comes to its measures in combating the pandemic.

"This is a testament of the outstanding leadership shown by Mayor Lino Cayetano and the proactive strategy of your local government to contain and mitigate the spread of the virus,” Galvez said.

The local government is now preparing for the arrival of vaccines against COVID-19.

When it comes to the city's vaccination program, Taguig City will hold public health information campaigns to educate the residents about the effectiveness of vaccines.

"The city will disseminate informational materials from the national government, Department of Health, and private companies and corporations. Community-based seminars will also be directed in different barangays in Taguig," Cayetano said.

The city is targeting to vaccinate an initial 670,000 residents against COVID-19.
