CAMANAVA LGUs start COVID-19 vaccination rollout


The local government units (LGUs) in northern Metro Manila have begun their  COVID-19 vaccination rollout with Sinovac vaccines.

In Malabon City, Mayor Antolin Oreta on Friday led the inoculation to health workers and frontliners at the Ospital ng Malabon (OSMAL).

OSMAL Chief Dra. Mitzi Tanchoco was first to receive the vaccine.

"Alam nating marami pa rin ang takot at nangangamba sa ngayon pero umaasa kami na sa pamamagitan nito, mas marami pang pamilya ang mahikayat na magpabakuna alang-alang sa kanilang mga mahal sa buhay," Oreta said in a statement, as he urged his constituents to answer the COVID-19 Vaccination Pre-Registration Survey for a smoother execution of the rollout.

The Caloocan City also started its rollout this Friday, led by Mayor Oscar Malapitan and joined by Senator Francis Tolentino at the Caloocan City Medical Center (CCMC).

CCMC Administrator Dr. Fernando Santos and Caloocan City Health Officer Dra. Evelyn Cuevas volunteered to be first to be vaccinated to encourage their medical staff to also avail of the vaccination program.

Santos said that of their 457 hospital staff, around 149 agreed to be injected with the Sinovac vaccine. They expect the number of participants to increase, and that the initial 300 doses of the vaccine will be fully utilized.

The country’s vaccine rollout formally started with the arrival of Sinovac vaccines, according to National Task Force against COVID-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr.

The Chinese government’s donation of 600,000 coronavirus vaccine doses from Sinovac arrived in the country on Sunday, making the Philippines the last country in Southeast Asia to reach the pandemic milestone of receiving a legitimate vaccine shipment.

Meanwhile, a total of 487,200 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University and British-Swedish pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca arrived on Thursday night.—AOL, GMA News
