The northbound of the Skyway Extension project, which extends the main line of the elevated tollway from Sucat, Parañaque to Alabang, Muntinlupa, is set to open to motorists in the second quarter of this year, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said Wednesday.

“With 61% of the project already complete, travel time from the Skyway mainline toll plaza in Sucat, Paranaque to Susana Heights in SLEX will soon be reduced by around 50%, greatly easing the traffic situation for those who are going home to the provinces,” Villar said in a statement.

“We are targeting completion of the northbound segment [by] second quarter of this year," Villar added.

The Public Works chief said the southbound segment of the project is being fast-tracked for delivery in September.

The 3.9-kilometer Sucat-Alabang Skyway Extension project can provide convenient travel to motorists who will be diverted from the at-grade segment of the Skyway to the elevated link.

The project is a key feature of the 38-kilometer elevated Skyway system.

The project extends the elevated expressway from Skyway Mainline Toll Plaza in Sucat, Parañaque to Susana Heights at SLEX and back, providing motorists a direct connection to Skyway 1 and 2 and SMC’s recently opened Skyway Stage 3.

It will add three lanes going north and two lanes going south.

Once completed, the Skyway Extension is seen to make travel to and from southern Metro Manila and southern Luzon provinces faster and more convenient, especially with the new Skyway Stage 3 from Buendia, Makati to the North Luzon Expressway, providing seamless connection to the north.

Villar said the project also includes widening of the Skyway Alabang Toll Plaza to accommodate more motorists both from northbound and southbound directions.—LDF, GMA News
