Over 1,400 arrested for curfew violation in Metro Manila —NCRPO

A total of 1,449 individuals were caught violating the unified curfew in Metro Manila on Monday, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Tuesday.

Monday was the first night of implementation of unified curfew hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in Metro Manila, which will be in effect for two weeks.

According to the NCRPO, most of the arrests or apprehensions were in the City of Manila with 1,139 individuals caught, Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander Police Lieutenant General Hawthorne Binag said.

Fines were imposed on 1,588 curfew violators. If violators fail to pay the fines, they have the option to render community service.

At least 547 curfew violators only received initial warnings and were later released.

NCRPO deployed a total of 8,341 of its personnel to monitor the enforcement of the curfew hours, which was imposed amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

The Metro Manila Council agreed last week to implement the uniform curfew hours in the region starting March 15. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
