Philippine Heart Center confirms death of male nurse

The Philippine Heart Center (PHC) has confirmed that one of its male staff nurses had passed away.

According to JP Soriano’s report on Saturday, the male nurse was assigned to the hospital’s charity ward.

After the incident, 13 doctors, 30 nurses, and 15 hospital staffers who were close contacts were tested and undergoing quarantine at a PHC facility.

On Saturday, the Filipino Nurses United expressed their grief after they received news that one colleague at PHC and one at the National Kidney Transplant Institute had reportedly succumbed to COVID-19.

Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases among healthcare workers, the group urged Health Secretary Francisco Duque III to resign.

On Saturday, the Philippines again set a new record with 7,999 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total to 656,056, even as six laboratories failed to submit data on time. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
