Former San Juan Mayor Guia Gomez will be hospitalized again to seek treatment for COVID-19 and pneumonia, her son former Senator JV Ejercito bared on Thursday.

Ejercito wrote in a tweet that his mom secured a spot at the hospital after a week. Gomez tested positive for the virus for the second time last April 23.

"She was confined already last December after testing positive.  Now she again will be back in the hospital due to pneumonia & tested positive," Ejercito also said.

"Prayers requested," he added.

Prior to being confined at the hospital, Ejercito said his mother had to undertake treatments at home.

The former city mayor first contracted the severe viral ailment last year. She survived the disease in late December.

Recently, former President Joseph Estrada left the hospital. He tested positive for COVID-19 in March.

To date, COVID-19 hit 1,028,738 Filipinos nationwide. Of the number, 17,145 lost to the disease while 942,239 survived.
