11-year-old keeps dog bite secret, dies of rabies

It was too late when Lito Bantillo learned that his 11-year-old son, Paul Amber, was bitten by a puppy, which is being seen as the cause of the child’s death.

“Nakagat ng aso tapos hindi sinabi sa amin,” Lito said in Cedrick Castillo’s report on “24 Oras.”

The father said he found out about the bite during his son’s wake.

For a few days, Lito said they noticed Paul lost appetite, was vomiting, was not drinking water.  When his jaw locked, they rushed him to the hospital for treatment.

“’Pag labas pa lang sa ambulasyam nagtatakbo na…kaya alam na agad ng doktor …sabi itatali raw,” Noimie Sinco, Paul’s aunt, said.

She said Paul passed on after about an hour in the hospital.

According to the Department of Health, around 200 persons die of rabies every year. Individuals bitten by animals must wash the wound and go to the hospital for treatment.—LDF, GMA News
