Sulu police chief laid to rest in La Trinidad

Police Colonel Michael Bawayan Jr, the provincial police chief of Sulu who was shot dead by another police officer at a quarantine control point in the island province, has been laid to rest in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Bawayan was buried at the Buyagan Cemetery on Saturday noon.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar also paid his respects at the burial.

Bawayan was shot dead in Jolo, Sulu on August 6 by suspect Police Senior Staff Sergeant Imran Jilah.

Bawayan's security detail shot Jilah to protect the provincial director. Jilah was himself killed.

PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Olay has previously said that the PNP will form a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to investigate the shooting of Bawayan. -MDM, GMA News
