Only 1 area under granular lockdown in NCR —PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said only one area in the National Capital Region is under granular lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an update, data from PNP as of Thursday showed that a residential building with 22 persons in Quezon City has been locked down. The number reached over 200  this year at the height of the surge caused by the more transmissible Delta coronavirus variant.

The PNP has deployed four personnel and four force multipliers to the concerned area to ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards.

Under the current setup, local government units (LGUs) have the authority to impose or lift the lockdown, the PNP Public Information Office said.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantines for areas classified as "critical zones".

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to lock down a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown along an entire street, there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street, or building with high cases of coronavirus infection. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
