Nancy Binay says sister Anne to drop mayoral bid vs. Abby in Makati
Senator Nancy Binay on Wednesday said there will be no repeat of a Binay versus Binay showdown for the mayoral position in Makati City as her sister, Anne, already decided to withdraw her certificate of candidacy.
“I think I’ve said (that) ‘di ba [na] for 2022, there won’t be a Binay versus Binay in Makati. I think today yata she’ll probably withdraw or tomorrow,” Binay said in an ANC interview.
The tentative list of aspirants running for local posts previously released by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that Anne Binay would run against incumbent Makati Mayor Abby Binay and aspirant Joel Hernandez.
In 2019, Abby’s reelection bid was challenged by her brother, former Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr.
At the time, Anne supported Junjun. However, Abby won the mayoral post by a wide margin.
