Hospital bed occupancy in NCR up by 41% —OCTA

The hospital bed occupancy for COVID-19 in the National Capital Region (NCR) has increased to 41% compared to the previous week, the OCTA Research group reported on Sunday.

In a tweet, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David showed that the number of occupied hospital beds for COVID-19 patients in NCR rose from 1,381 on December 24 to 1,942 on December 31.

Likewise, the intensive care unit (ICU) occupancy increased by 37% from 231 to 316 within the same period.

According to the Department of Health’s (DOH) latest bulletin, 25% of the 1,300 ICU beds and 23% of the 4,700 isolation beds for COVID-19 patients in the NCR were occupied.

“Both are considered to be very low at this time,” David noted, stressing that the critical level threshold is at 70% occupancy.

About 24% of the 3,700 ward beds and 4% of the 1,000 ventilators were also utilized in the NCR.

Meanwhile, for the whole country, 20% of 3,500 ICU beds and 22% of the 18,700 isolation beds were in use.

13% of the 12,100 ward beds and 11% of the 2,900 ventilators were also utilized.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has placed the National Capital Region under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to 15, 2022, following the sharp increase in new COVID-19 cases.

On Saturday, the Philippines recorded 3,617 new COVID-19 infections at the start of the New Year, bringing the active case count to 17,374. —LBG, GMA News
