NCR granular lockdown areas rose from 1 to 16 — PNP


The number of areas under granular lockdown in the National Capital Region has increased from one to 16 on Tuesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

Based on the PNP data, 14 of these areas were reported by the Northern Police District, which covers Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela.

The other two areas were reported by the Manila Police District and the Southern Police District.

At least 57 people were affected by granular lockdown in the region, according to the PNP.

Nationwide, the number of locked down areas also increased from eight to 27, which was reported from the NCR, Mimaropa, and Cordillera.

A total of 73 people were affected by granular lockdown in the country.

The government has placed Metro Manila under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to 15, as well as Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal from January 5 to 15, 2022, amid the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Under Alert Level 3, several establishments will be allowed to operate at 30% indoor venue capacity only for fully vaccinated individuals and 50% outdoor venue capacity, provided that all employees are fully vaccinated.

Face-to-face classes, contact sports, funfairs/perya, and casinos are among the activities and establishments that are prohibited under Alert Level 3.

Work at government offices is limited to 60% of their onsite capacity.

On Monday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,084 additional COVID-19 infections, bringing the Philippines' total tally to 2,855,819.

The top regions with infections in the recent two weeks were Metro Manila with 2,831 or 70%, followed by Calabarzon with 571 or 14% and Central Luzon with 273 or 7%, according to the DOH. — RSJ, GMA News
