Isko to impose liquor ban from January 8-10, 2022 as Manila celebrates Nazarene feast

In light of the festivities for the Black Nazarene, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said the local government unit will implement a liquor ban from January 8 to January 10.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Moreno said he already signed an executive order that prohibits the sale of alcoholic drinks from 6 p.m. of January 8 until 6 a.m. of January 10.

“I just signed an executive order prohibiting the sale of liquor and other alcoholic beverage beverages,” he said.

“I am directing to strictly implement Ordinance 5555 sa panahon ng kapistahan ng Nazareno (during the period of the Feast of the Black Nazarene),” he added.

Moreno thanked the Quiapo Church for granting the request of the government to cancel the traditional procession of the image of the Black Nazarene or “Traslacion.”

According to him, the church also agreed to conduct only online Masses for the occasion due to the threat of the COVID-19m pandemic.

Quiapo Church earlier announced that it will be closed from January 3 to 6, 2022 following the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country. — RSJ, GMA News
