DepEd NCR suspends classes from Jan. 15 to 22 amid COVID-19 surge

The Department of Education-National Capital Region has suspended classes for January 15 until January 22, 2022 to ease the burden of teachers and students due to the spike in COVID-19 cases.

DepEd Regional Memorandum No. 017 s. 2022, signed on Friday, stated that classes in the NCR will resume from January 24 to 29 but only for asynchronous distance learning modalities.

“The Deped NCR suspends the conduct of classes starting Saturday, January 15, 2022, and on Monday, January 17 until Saturday, January 22, 2022,” the memorandum indicates.

However, DepEd-NCR noted that students should use their “midyear break”, which is scheduled from January 31 to February 5, to complete their backlogs in learning outputs.

Also, teachers are expected to attend their usual activities including in-service trainings and other learning-related undertakings during the period of the supposed break.

Students will have to submit their learning outputs between February 7 and 12 through online platforms.

Quarter 2 examinations are set to be conducted on February 7 and 8.

On Wednesday, the DepEd urged regional and schools division offices to exercise discretion in suspending classes and other teaching-related activities this January amid the surge of COVID-19 cases.

The DepEd cited the alarming surge in COVID-19 cases and the well-being of teachers and students. —LBG, GMA News
