2 of 3 inmates who bolted Bilibid shot dead

Two of the three inmates who escaped from the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison on Monday were killed during manhunt operations by authorities.

Bureau of Corrections spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag identified the fatalities as Pacifico Adlawan, 49, from Surigao del Sur and Arwin Bio, 35, from Leyte. Adlawan was serving a sentence for frustrated homicide and drug use, while Bio was serving a sentence for murder and attempted murder.

Earlier, Chaclag said authorities saw Adlawan running towards a creek near the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway but he was cornered.

"Our government forces were forced to retaliate and after some time, they neutralized the gunman who was later identified as one of the PDL escapees who bolted the MaxSeCom prison earlier at dawn today," he said.

Seized from the Adlawan were a 9mm pistol with live bullets and spent shells.

Meanwhile, Bio was also captured during an encounter at the creek.

Chaclag earlier said minor injuries were reported on the government side. The site of the firefight is also now being processed by the Philippine National Police Crime Lab SOCO team.

He said authorities are now looking for the remaining escapee Drakilou Falcon, who was convicted for robbery with homicide.

"As of now, tuloy-tuloy pa rin paghahanap. Malalalim po kasi ang creeks dito sa reservation so talagang area by area tsinatsaga halughugin," Chaclag said.

(The search continues. The creeks at the reservation are deep so they are thoroughly searching the area.)

Three jail guards and an inmate were injured after the three inmates fired shots while escaping.

An initial report from the Muntinlupa Police said the incident happened at 1:20 a.m. on Monday. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
