A 15-year-old boy died while his 19-year-old companion was hurt in a motorcycle accident in Quezon City early Wednesday morning after trying to avoid a police checkpoint, James Agustin reported on "Unang Balita" on Wednesday.

The checkpoint in question was set up on the corner of Banawe and Calamba Streets, as part of Oplan Sita.

The police officers on duty were about to check on the two young men because they were not wearing helmets when they sped away and were then chased by the cops on duty. The chase reached Caloocan, where the duo figured in an accident.

According to the police, a caliber .38 pistol was confiscated, which was thrown by the 19-year-old to the side of the road.

The suspect denied having a gun in his possession.

The suspect will face disobedience and illegal possession of firearms complaints in relation to the Omnibus Election Code. -- BAP, GMA News
