New papal envoy to Rwanda to be ordained bishop in rites led by Cardinal Tagle
A Filipino Vatican official will preside over the episcopal ordination of the newly appointed papal envoy to Rwanda, according to an announcement posted by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila.
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation of the Evangelization of Peoples, will lead the ordination of Msgr. Arnaldo Catalan as bishop on Friday February 11, 2022.
Cardinal Tagle will be joined by Manila Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula and Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles Brown at the rites that will be held at the Manila Cathedral.
Msgr. Catalan was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Rwanda by Pope Francis earlier this week and was also elevated to the titular See of Apollonia, with the dignity of Archbishop.
He succeeds Archbishop Andrzej Józwowicz, who was transferred to Iran in June 2021.
The attendees were requested to follow health protocols that have been in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In line with government health protocols, only fully vaccinated individuals will be allowed inside the Cathedral. Please bring your proof of vaccination," according to the announcement by the archdiocese.
Catalan, 55, was ordained to the priesthood on March 25, 1994.
He has been serving as the Chargé ‘affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature in China since 2019. -- BAP, GMA News
