Truck caught dumping wastes allegedly from foreign vessel on Tondo streets
Police tailed a truck carrying piles of garbage from Pier South in Manila and caught on video how at least two men tossed bags of wastes when they passed along Vitas Street in Tondo.
When intercepted, police took the four men manning the truck for questioning. The suspects, however, said their company would speak for them.
“Amin pong napag-alaman na itong mga basura ay galing doon sa foreign vessel na dumating sa Manila Bay,” Police Major Randy Ludovice, station chief of Northern NCR of the Philippine National Police said.
Inside the garbage bags were used diapers, sanitary napkins and other wastes.
The police officer said the Ecological Solid Wastes Management Act of 2000 mandates garbage contractors to follow a process of garbage disposal.
“Kailangan pagkagaling ng barko, isasakay sa truck nila at dadalhin sa crater area. Dapat may permit sila at nandun yung recovery material facilities. Kailangan sundin ang proseso dahil mahalaga ito sa kalusugan ng tao. . . .sino-shortcut siguro para madali silang makabalik,” Ludovice said.
