The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said it is expecting incidents of snatching, pickpocketing, and other crimes in political rallies as the campaign period for local positions started.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, NCRPO public information chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Jenny Tecson said police personnel have been deployed for anti-criminality efforts.

“Siyempre kapag medyo siksikan, maraming tao, tendency, nandyan ‘yung opportunity na meron 'yung snatching, nandyan ‘yung mga pandurukot ng mga kagamitan or kung anumang mga bagay-bagay sa bawat isa,” she said.

(Of course when the place is crowded and there are many people,  there will be an opportunity for snatching and pickpocketing.)

“Yun po 'yung ayaw nating mangyari kaya nandyan din po ang ating kapulisan (We do not want that to happen that’s why our police are there),” she added.

During some campaign rallies of candidates for national positions, some attendees reported that they lost their belongings like cellphones and wallets.

Tecson said the conduct of campaign activities of local candidates is peaceful so far.

According to her, police personnel are conducting patrol to monitor their respective areas of responsibility in the region.

The police are also enforcing minimum public health standards against the spread of COVID-19, managing traffic congestions, and conducting checkpoints, she added.

At least 4,000 police personnel will be deployed in the NCR to ensure the peaceful conduct of campaign period for locally elected officials.—AOL, GMA News
