Bus company employees try to cover up theft with armed robbery

Three bus company employees hired an accomplice to cover up their theft with armed robbery, according to Mark Salazar’s “24 Oras” report on Tuesday.

The cashier and encoder stole around P2.1 million from the firm last Thursday.

However, another employee confessed to the police regarding the incident.

This prompted the suspects to hire another accomplice to stage a robbery in the company to cover up for their theft.

Based on the bus firm's CCTV footage, the accomplice easily stole the money from the cashier’s booth.

“Nagsabwatan ito noong October pa lang, umuumit or kumukupit na sila doon sa sinasabing kita ng bus company. Kukuha sila ng P5,000 o P10,000 in a week based doon sa ating investigation tatlong beses sa isang linggo... and then umabot na sila sa point na halos P1.4 million na yung [nakuha] ng tatlo na ito,” Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth Jasmin, station commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 7, said.

(They conspired since last October to steal from the bus company's income.  They started taking P5,000 or P10,000 in a week. Based on our investigation, they were taking P5,000 or P10,000 three times a week which accumulated to almost P1.4 million.)

“There is no such thing as perfect crime, so base doon sa statement nila and icompare po sa CCTV na narecover natin nagkakaroon ng discrepancy,” Jasmin said.

GMA News is trying to get the side of the bus company.

The authorities have filed charges against the three employees.  However, they are still looking for the other accomplice in the crime.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA News
