'Poblacion Girl' facing charges for skipping COVID-19 quarantine

The Makati City Prosecutor's Office has found probable cause to charge the woman who skipped mandatory quarantine in December 2021 and who was later found to have contracted COVID-19.

In a resolution dated April 29, the prosecution office found probable cause to charge Gwyneth Chua with violation of Section 9 of RA No. 11332 for defying the mandatory quarantine when she arrived from the United States.

Also included in the indictment is Esteban Gatbonton, a security guard of the Berjaya Hotel who allegedly assisted Chua's "escape" from the quarantine facility.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group's complaint against the other employees were dismissed as the evidence failed to show they knowingly allowed Chua to leave the hotel.

The complaint against parents and her boyfriend were also dismissed as there was insufficient evidence that they violated the law on notifiable diseases. —Mel Matthew Doctor and Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
