Guard hurt in Mandaluyong hit-and-run incident

A guard who was directing traffic in Mandaluyong City on Sunday was hurt after he was hit by an SUV he was trying to stop at an intersection, according to an Unang Balita report by Nico Waje on Monday.

The victim was identified as Christian Joseph Floralde who is currently recovering in a hospital in Mandaluyong.

The hit and run incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of Julia Vargas Avenue and St. Francis Street in Mandaluyong.

In a dashcam footage, Floralde was seen stopping a white SUV but was instead hit by the vehicle. Instead of the helping the fallen victim, the SUV driver ran over him and escaped.

According to witness Miko Angelo Ramos, who owns the dashcam video, several enforcers unsuccessfully chased the SUV.

"Mayrong mga humabol na enforcer na naka-motor pero parang unluckily, hindi ata nila naabutan kasi nga 'yung incident after that parang sobrang harurot ng kotse," he said.

(There were enforcers on board motorcycles who chased after the driver but unluckily, they seemed to not be able to catch up because the driver sped up.)

The Mandaluyong Police said they already know the plate number of the SUV and are verifying it with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

"The Guard was hit by a White Toyota RAV 4 with plate number NCO 3781, which is now under verification to LTO in order to identify the owner and driver during the incident,” they said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Floralde’s partner Arceli Flores said that he is having breathing difficulty due to the injury he sustained in the middle part of his body.

The victim is also currently on oxygen support and has also sustained wounds on the head. —Giselle Ombay/KBK, GMA News
