2 dead, 2 hurt in Makati elevator accident —police


Two persons were killed after an elevator being repaired collapsed inside a building in Makati City early Friday morning, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said.

Based on preliminary report from NCRPO, an elevator car fell from the 38th floor to the basement while the victims identified as Manuel Linayao and Rey Miguel Gilera were fixing the elevator on the the sixth floor at around 2:55 a.m.

Two other elevator installers were injured in the incident, the police said.

“The abovementioned victims/deceased and with two other elevator installers... were fixing an elevator at 6th Floor when suddenly an elevator [coming] from 38th Floor accidentally fell to basement that resulted [in] the death of herein victims and injured two others,” it said.

Based on Bureau of Fire Protection’s report, Special Rescue Force - Makati responded to the area around 03:46 a.m. and an additional ambulance was deployed around 06:44 a.m.

Two rescue trucks from Makati’s SRF and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) team, as well as three ambulances, responded to the incident.

A rescue and retrieval operation was conducted, the BFP said.

The building management said it was "waiting for the official investigation by the bureau of fire regarding the incident.”

“This is a construction related accident and not a elevator accident. The elevator is an old elevator and a new elevator was being installed. The old elevator was being dismantled to install the new elevator when the incident happened," a  representative of Burgundy Corporate Tower said.  —KBK, GMA News
