Maynilad has announced on Friday that the repair work on the damaged pipeline, which was the reason for the water service interruption, along Pureza Street in Sta. Mesa, Manila is underway.

In an advisory, Maynilad said the repair works commenced on the pipeline that was accidentally damaged by Triple 8 Construction & Supply, Inc., a third-party contractor for a drainage project in the area as of 11 a.m. on Friday. The water utility company underscored that Triple 8 is not a Maynilad contractor.

“After dewatering the submerged trench to expose the pipelines underneath, it was discovered that the damage done was on a 150-mm valve and pipe assembly that is across the path of the drainage line being laid by Triple 8,” Maynilad said.

“The damaged assembly is near Maynilad’s 500mm-diameter pipeline; hence, the strong flow of water from the leak,” it added.

Maynilad said its workers have removed the damaged assembly and plugged the leak on the pipeline.

“The next step in the process is to install a new valve on a different point along the 500mm-diameter pipeline. This new valve will enable Maynilad to localize any service interruptions that may occur if further damage is made on the said pipeline, which is right beside the drainage line being laid by Triple 8,” it said.

Maynilad said the repair work is moving as scheduled and further updates will be released in the succeeding hours.

The damaged pipe caused water service interruption and affected some customers of Maynilad in some areas in Manila, Makati, Parañaque, Las Piñas and Pasay. -- BAP, GMA News
