Kin of slain security guard in Ateneo shooting call for justice

The family of Jeneven Bandiala, the security guard who was killed in Sunday afternoon's shooting incident inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus in Quezon City, is appealing for justice, Unang Balita reported Tuesday.

Christina Mascardo, the victim's partner, said she was shocked when she learned about his death.

“Masakit po para sa akin. Nabigla po ako nung malaman ko. Hindi ko po alam kung anong gagawin ko. Sabi ko, ‘Bakit ganun, bakit siya pa? Bakit dinamay siya?’” she said.

(It is painful for me. I was shocked when I learned about his death. I don’t know what to do. I said, “Why him, why was he killed too?)

Raymond Bandiala, the victim's brother, said the suspect, Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol, 38,  should feel guilty for what he did.

“Sana naman makonsensya ka sa ginawa mo sa kapatid ko. Wala naman siyang kasalanan sa inyo. Ginawa lang naman yung trabaho niya. Bakit dinamay niyo pa?” he said.

(You should be guilty of what you did to my brother. He had done nothing against you. He was just doing his job. Why did you kill him too?)

Bandiala, who has been working as a security guard in Ateneo for four years, was also supporting the needs of his brother and mother, according to the report.

The victim died after sustaining one gunshot on his chest and two on his legs.

Meanwhile, according to a report of James Agustin on Unang Balita, the remains of two other fatalities in the shooting incident, former Lamitan, Basilan mayor Rose Furigay and her aide Victor Capistrano, were brought to Cosmopolitan Memorial Chapel in Quezon City for their wake.

Furigay’s remains will be transported to Basilan once her daughter Hannah, who was also hurt in the shooting incident, is released from the hospital. Hannah is already in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Basilan Governor Jim Hataman Salliman said their province will set a state of mourning in light of the former mayor's death.

Capistano’s family, meanwhile, refused to be interviewed but said they are also working on transporting his remains to Basilan.

On Sunday, Furigay, Capistrano, and Bandiala were shot dead in front of the Areté building inside the Ateneo campus during the graduation day of law school students.

Yumol was eventually arrested by the police. Initial investigation points to personal grudge between him and the Furigay family as motive behind the attack. —KBK, GMA News
