Police looking into love triangle as motive for Taguig shooting

Police investigators are looking into a possible love triangle as the motive for the killing of three individuals in a shooting incident in Taguig City over the weekend.

According to Taguig Police Acting Chief P/Col. Robert Baesa, the suspect — identified as Julian Paningbatan Jr. — was seen on CCTV with one of the victims, Marie Angelica Belina, before the incident.

“Ito po ay kaso ng para pong love triangle ito… ‘yun po ang nakikita naming pangyayari dito,” he said in Jamie Santos' report on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

“Ang gunman po ay kasama, kakilala nila. Well in fact, kaibigan po ng dalawa at kinasama po ni Marie Angelica Belina. May isa po silang anak,” he added.

(This seems like a case of a love triangle. That is what we’re seeing here. The gunman accompanied them and knew them. In fact, he was a friend of the two and accompanied Marie Angelica Belina. They have one child.)

Belina, an overseas Filipino worker headed back to Japan, was killed in a shooting incident past 3 a.m. on Sunday, August 21, in Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.

Also killed in the incident were Mark Ian Desquitado, and Tashane Joshua Branzuela who were both residents of the same village where the shooting happened.

The suspect was said to have fled the area in a van. He is now being tracked down by the police.

“Hinahanap pa rin po nating mga kapulisan. Up to now ang atin pong mga kapulisan ay hindi tumitigil sa paghahanap sa kanya,” Baesa said.

(Our policemen are continuing to look for him. Up to now, the police have not stopped the search.)

Baesa also urged the public to report any relevant information regarding Paningbatan’s whereabouts to the Taguig City Police. Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
