DOH vaccinates homeless people in QC vs. COVID-19

The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday vaccinated several homeless people in Quezon City to help protect them against COVID-19.

DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire personally led the vaccination of the homeless families in Scout Santiago, Quezon City, along with Metro Manila Center for Health Development Assistant Regional Director Aleli Annie Grace Sudiacal.

At a press conference, Vergeire said that 52 homeless people, mostly senior citizens, were vaccinated in the city.

The DOH, however, does not have data on the number of homeless people in the country who are still unvaccinated.

The initiative was part of the DOH’s Bakunahang Bayan special COVID-19 vaccination days that will run until October 1.

Aside from the COVID-19 vaccination, the DOH said they also looked into other health concerns of the homeless people, like malnutrition, and the residents' routine immunization against other diseases.

Based on the DOH’s national COVID-19 vaccination dashboard, 73 million Filipinos are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 19.3 million have received their booster shots. —LBG/VBL, GMA News
