1 worker dead, 10 injured in QC construction site accident —police

One person was killed while 10 others were injured in an accident at a construction site for a housing project in Barangay Balingasa, Quezon City on Tuesday, the La Loma Police Station said.

The police report identified the fatality 45-year-old Francis Anzures, a construction worker.

Azures and 10 other men were brought to Quezon City General Hospital by barangay health workers, according to the police.

Azures was declared dead on arrival at 9:40 a.m. The ten others were treated for reportedly minor injuries.

Quoting the injured workers, the police said scaffolding installed at the construction site suddenly fell on the victims.

In a statement, the Quezon City government expressed “regrets” over the incident.

According to the city government, five of the 10 injured workers have already been released while the other five are still recuperating.

It said the private contractor has already extended assistance to the workers and the city government has ordered concerned city offices to assist the family of the deceased and the injured victims.

“The City Architect and Infrastructure Committee of the city government have extensively inspected the site  and its surroundings,” the QC government said.

“A thorough investigation is underway to determine if there were lapses in the observance of standard construction procedures, and to recommend measures to ensure that such untoward incidents will not happen again in the future,” it added. — BM, GMA News
