Man nabbed for stealing cop's gun, other valuables

A man was arrested after stealing valuables, including a service firearm, from the house of a police officer in Taguig City.

According to John Consulta's report on "24 Oras", the suspect was seen via a closed-circuit television (CCTV) walking towards the policeman's house. A few minutes after, he was seen coming out of the house but this time carrying a small bag.

The suspect, Richmond Lumampaw, was arrested during the follow-up operation by the authorities, and the stolen items that included the policeman's 9MM gun, wallet, ID, and ATM card were recovered.

According to Police Lt. Col. Kirby Kraft, the Philippine National Police - Southern Police District director, Lumampaw waited for the victim to leave the house.

Kraft said the CCTV footage was helpful to authorities in solving the case and catching the suspect.

In a separate incident, two caliber 38 revolvers were recovered by the Makati police from Romero Salve's residence.

According to the report, his neighbors informed the police that he always comes out of his house showing off his gun. His action scared the residents.

Both guns are unregistered and will undergo ballistic examination to see if they were used in other crimes.

Both suspects in the two cases declined to give a statement. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA News
