PNP to check if more cops are involved in drug buy-bust in Manila

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it will dig deeper if more cops are involved in the illegal drug trade following the arrest of an intelligence officer in a big buy-bust operation in Manila.

“Isang ini-expect natin kay [Police Master] Sergeant [Rodolfo] Mayo ay i-reveal niya o tulungan niya kami sa pag-identify ng ibang kasamahan niya kung meron pa man,” PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. told reporters at a press conference.

(We expect [Police] Sergeant Mayo to reveal to us or help us identify his other cohorts if there is any.)

“We don't care kyung hanggang saan ang aabutin ng imbestigasyon na to (We don't care how far this investigation can go),” he added.

He was referring to Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo, who was arrested on Quezon Bridge in Quiapo, Manila on Sunday after another drug suspect identified him.

Mayo is an intelligence officer for the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, based on police records. He has yet to release a statement on the matter.

Over the weekend, authorities have confiscated some 990 kilograms of suspected shabu worth over P6.7 billion following a series of anti-drug operations in Manila.

Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos said the yield from the anti-illegal drug operation was probably the biggest haul in the country’s history.

PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) Director Police Brigadier General Narcisco Domingo said Mayo expressed willingness to give information to the police.

“So far, as of this moment, napapayag na po natin siya na mag-reveal. Masaya po tayong i-report sa ating Chief PNP na within today we will start the interview with that suspect,” Domingo said.

(So far, as of this moment, we were able to convince Mayo to reveal information. We are happy to report to our Chief PNP that we will start the interview with that suspect today.) — RSJ, GMA News
