57 sacks of imported onions confiscated in Divisoria due to alleged violation

Authorities confiscated 57 sacks of imported yellow and white onions in Divisoria in Manila due to alleged violation of the Food and Safety Act.

Personnel of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), Bureau of Customs, and Philippine Coast Guard conducted an inspection of the onions being sold at the market, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

The confiscated onions were brought to the BPI's quarantine office.

The owner of the onions may face charges of violation of the Food and Safety Act.

Under the law, imported foods need to undergo cargo inspection and be given clearance by the DA. —KG, GMA News
