MMDA clears road obstructions around Caloocan, Malabon cemeteries
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Monday conducted clearing operations along roads leading to two cemeteries in Caloocan and Malabon ahead of Undas or All Saints' Day.
According to a report of GMA's Jonathan Andal on Unang Balita , MMDA personnel conducted the clearing operations at the Tugatog Public Cemetery in Malabon and Sangandaan Cemetery in Caloocan.
MMDA Task Force Special Operations chief Bong Nebrija said they will monitor cemeteries daily until Undas to make sure that roads are free from illegal parking and illegal vendors.
They also started removing obstructions on the sidewalks and driving off vendors selling on the roads.
Most of those fined by law enforcers were due to illegal parking. A fine of P1,000 would be imposed upon violators.
A vehicle of the Caloocan City Disaster Risk Reduction Office (CDRRMO) parked under a No Parking sign beside the Sangandaan Cemetery was also towed.
Aside from cemeteries, MMDA said it will also inspect bus terminals. It will also continue the road clearing operations even after the holiday to aid those who will be coming back to Metro Manila from provinces.
Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will use drones to monitor the situation in five cemeteries in the city.
Two drones will be allocated per cemetery and will be integrated in QCPD’s patrol operations.
Footage of the drone cameras will be streamed in QCPD’s command center.—Giselle Ombay/AOL, GMA News
