Motorist who allegedly drove sports car along EDSA bus lane ignores LTO summons

The motorist who allegedly drove a sports car along the EDSA bus lane last week ignored a summons issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

According to Oscar Oida’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, the LTO said it had asked the sports car's driver to explain his side, but he did not show up at their office.

This prompted the agency to issue another show cause order, with a hearing set on Wednesday.

The motoring incident along the exclusive bus lane went viral on social media after it was photographed by other road users.

Should the driver not show up again, LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renan Militante said, “Enough na po ‘yun kasi we already gave him an opportunity to be heard. So, nakadalawang notice na po tayo sa kanya and then we will resolve the case base doon sa ebidensya nandito po sa atin.”

(If he does not show up, that is sufficient because we already gave him an opportunity to be heard. So, with two notices, we will then resolve the case based on the evidence we have.)

Militante also said that they would not tolerate the entry of sports cars and other vehicles on the busway as it should only be used for buses and emergency purposes.

“We are not supposed to be there. ‘Yun po ay para lamang sa ating mga PNP, ating ambulance. 'Yun po ang primary na dapat dumaan po d’un,” he said.

(We are not supposed to be there. That's only for our PNP, our ambulance. They are the primary vehicles that could pass there.)

While they had identified the driver, the LTO would not disclose the motorist's name based on the Data Privacy Act.

The agency added that there was an alert out on the sports car.

“Kapag naka-alarma ka po, ‘yung mga traffic enforcers po natin ay mayroon na po silang public knowledge na pwede silang parahin at pa-report sa opisina po natin,” Militante said.
