Fire hits residential area in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque

A fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay San Dionisio in Parañaque City before dawn on Monday.

The affected area is a compound near the corner of Tramo Uno and Tramo Dos, according to a report by Jonathan Andal on GMA Integrated News' Unang Balita.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started at 2:30 a.m. then eventually reached the fifth alarm, according to a report by Mao dela Cruz on Dobol B TV.

The fire was placed under control at 6:14 a.m.

Around 40 fire trucks responded but the firemen had difficulty putting out the fire due to the limited water supply and the narrow roads.

Firemen went to the nearby Palanyag Cemetery and stood on tombs as they trained their water hoses on the burning houses.

At least 100 houses mostly made of light materials were hit by the fire, Kagawad Miling Santos said.

A total of 160 families were affected by the fire.

Residents said they heard some explosions from the affected houses.

One fire volunteer fell, and his arm was broken. He was taken immediately to the hospital.

Some residents could not help but cry as they watched their houses going up in flames a day after Christmas.

Meanwhile, some residents turned festive past 6 a.m. as the fire in one affected portion of the compound was already put out.

The said residents earlier joined hands in putting out the fire, passing pails of water to each other, bayanihan-style, until they were able to put out the fire in some houses.

Fire officials estimated the damage to property to reach P400,000.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is still conducting an investigation as to the possible cause of the fire.

Some residents appealed for food and clothes as they were not able to save any of their belongings. —KG, GMA Integrated News
