NCRPO chief conducts surprise inspection, random drug test
National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Jonnel Estomo led surprise inspections at several police stations in Metro Manila and random drug testing on Thursday.
As part of the investigation, some officers also underwent drug testing, Jun Veneracion reported on "24 Oras."
Estomo visited various City Police Stations in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela.
In Caloocan, the incumbent police chief was ordered to investigate the report regarding a former police chief in Caloocan and some personnel allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
“Ang word pa na ginamit puro tulisan at holdaper, hindi maganda ito. Nangangahoy ang mga impounded na kotse babrasuhin ang owners para ibenta sa mababang presyo o kaya gagawa ng eksena na mai-release ang kotse sa forged na SPA,” Estomo said.
He also conducted a surprise drug test for police officer, which he joined despite earlier testing negative for the same test.
The surprise inspection was conducted after some police officers were arrested during anti-drug operations.
Estomo advised the staff not to turn a blind eye when fellow police officers are involved in drugs.
“Tayo kasi may tendency kahit may alam tayo ayaw natin hulihin kasi kabaro. Hulihin na ninyo para hindi pamarisan ang iilan na pulis na ito,” he said.
Meanwhile, a random drug testing at Camp Bagong Diwa was also conducted and participated in by all operatives of the regional special operations group.
“Isa ito sa mga hakbang para ipakita na tayo ay malinis at wala tayong involvement sa illegal na droga,” said NCRPO Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Dexter Versola.
Currently, no police officer has tested positive in the drug tests conducted by the NCRPO. But the surprise inspection will continue as part of the PNP's campaign against illegal drug use among its ranks. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA Integrated News
