Maynilad: Water service interruption up to 57 hours; pipeline repair ongoing

The damage to a primary line of water concessionaire Maynilad has caused 20 to 57 hours of water service interruption in some parts of the cities of Manila, Makati, Pasay, and Parañaque, according to Raffy Tima’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday.

Maynilad has deployed technical divers to enter the two-meter pipeline that supplies water from La Mesa Dam towards the Southern part of Metro Manila.

Up to 20 million liters of water is leaking each day from the hole of the pipeline, which is the amount of water that could have been supplied to 200,000 persons in one day.

In order to hasten the repair of the damage, the work will be done inside the pipeline.

“Doon sa loob ng pipe na 'yun, papasok ang mga divers. Kahit may tubig yun underwater, ipa-patch nila o tapalan ang butas na yun para lang walang lumalabas na tubig from the pipeline,” said Maynilad Water Supply Operation Head Ronald Padua.

(They will go inside the pipe and fix the damage.)

Padua said the water interruption in the affected areas is scheduled until Wednesday, March 8.

“Di pa kami makapagsabi kung mapapaaga but sa ngayon, ang assessment namin on time pa rin naman. Hinahabol pa rin namin kung may posibilidad na mas mapaaga maibalik ang supply ng tubig sa mga naapektuhang customers,” he said.

(We cannot say if we can fix it ahead of our projected time but based on our assessment we are still on time. We’re trying to expedite the repair so we can restore the supply of water to customers as soon as possible.)

Maynilad said it had deployed stationary water tanks and mobile tankers in eight areas with the highest consumption of water supply to help the affected consumers.

The list of affected areas and their schedule for the rotational service can be accessed in their website at https://www.mayniladwater.com.ph/. -- Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA Integrated News
