Fire hits commercial building in Ortigas area

A fire hit a room in a high-rise commercial building located in Ortigas Center in Quezon City early Friday morning, according to the report of Bam Alegre on "Unang Balita."

The fire occurred at the 27the floor of the building and was raised to first alarm at around 2:30 a.m., the report said. Some 10 firetrucks responded to the alarm.

Initially, there was difficulty in responding to the fire as power was turned off in the building.

There was also a problem with the water pumps, prompting firefighters to conduct a "bucket relay" in efforts to put the fire under control.

Fire out was declared at 6:40 a.m., according to a separate Unang Balita report.

Items destroyed by the blaze were mostly office supplies and computers, it added. Employees in the affected office were advised to take the day off due to the assessment being conducted by authorities.

An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire and the cost of damage to property. -- BAP, GMA Integrated News
