QCPD chief Torre resigns amid probe on viral road rage video

Quezon City Police District (QPCD) chief Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III has resigned from his post to give way to the investigation into the road rage incident involving a former policeman and a cyclist, Super Radyo dzBB's Allan Gatus reported on Wednesday.

Torre was quoted as saying in the report that he wants to show that he is not covering up for anyone and he is willing to uncover the truth in the incident.

The resignation will be effective on Thursday, the report said.

The police are currently investigating the August 8 altercation between former policeman Wilfredo Gonzales and an unnamed cyclist that was caught on video.

In the viral video, Gonzales was seen pulling out a gun during the altercation after the cyclist's bicycle hit the former policeman's vehicle.

Police on Tuesday filed an alarm and scandal complaint against Gonzales.

In a press briefing on Sunday, Gonzales said he and the cyclist went to a police station following the incident and settled their differences.

Bike enthusiast and lawyer Raymond Fortun, however, said that the cyclist was forced into an agreement admitting that the incident was his fault and was told to pay P500 for the damage to Gonzales’ car.

On Tuesday, when asked about the supposed delay in the filing of the complaint, Torre explained that while the incident happened on August 8, the video only surfaced on social media on August 27.

He also dismissed allegations that the police helped in the supposed settlement between Gonzales and the cyclist, saying his personnel "acted professionally" on the incident.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it is planning to file more criminal charges, including a complaint for grave threat, against Gonzales. Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
