Rider in viral road rage video has warrants of arrest —SPD

The motorcycle rider who was pinned down by a policeman in a traffic altercation has warrants for his arrest, the authorities said on Thursday.

According to Cedric Castillo's report on "24 Oras," Southern Police District director Police General Roderick Mariano said Angelito Rencio has standing warrants for qualified theft, usurpation of authority, and other cases.

"We are verifying if he has already posted bail," Mariano said.

In a viral video, Rencio can be seen on the ground at the corner of Arnaiz Road and Osmeña Highway in Makati City in what appeared to be a road rage incident with Police Staff Sergeant Marsan Dolipas.

The video showed Dolipas holding his gun while trying to keep Rencio down.

Rencio told Makati police investigators was a retired intelligence operative for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

He also asked to be allowed the leave the police precinct supposedly so he could get the papers for the gun found on him.

At least two Makati police officers have been relieved of their duty because they allowed Rencio to leave.

Dolipas has filed a complaint of usurpation of authority, illegal possession of firearms, and resisting arrest in the Makati Prosecutors Office.

He said the viral video has been affecting him and his family.

“Mayabang daw ako kasi daw pulis ako may baril ako.

The police are currently investigating Dolipas' version of the story.

Dolipas has also given a statement to the National Police Commission.

Police are still looking for Rencio.

The police have yet to determine to whom the gun that Rencio is carrying is registered.

“The serial number ay naka-assign sa isang security agency, so we are now verifying doon sa security agency,” Mariano said. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
