Local rescued from Valenzuela wall, house collapse dies from injuries
A resident rescued after a wall collapsed on several Valenzuela City homes died from his injuries, according to Emil Sumangil's Monday 24 Oras report.
Amid a downpour that started Saturday evening, the wall collapsed and fell on several homes on Sunday, trapping victim Reynaldo Medino Maraya.
Maraya was rescued, but he expired on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, 28 families or 113 individuals lost their homes in the incident and would now need to find a new place to live.
Furthermore, the collapse happened so quickly that residents were unable to save any of their belongings.
Local government officials inspected the incident site and promised the now-homeless residents that they would be given financial aid.
According to Valenzuela City's engineering officials, the ground at the incident site was so saturated from the continuous downpour that it slid out from under the wall, causing the collapse.
The site was declared a danger zone, and entry into the area was now prohibited.
Affected residents would have to temporarily stay at evacuation centers where they will be cared for by the City Social Welfare Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and barangay workers. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
