Disgruntled employees eyed in NAIA-3 car park blast

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said they are looking into disgruntled employees as possible perpetrators in the molotov bomb explosion in a parking area at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

“May tinitignan na po sila na mga indibidwal at grupo na maaaring may kinalaman. Possibly, isa sa mga tinitignan nila may mga disgruntled na mga indibidwal na nagtatrabaho sa loob,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo told reporters.

(They are looking into some individuals and a group who were involved. Possibly, one of the angles they are considering is that there were disgruntled employees inside the airport.)

Based on the initial findings, Fajardo said the molotov blast was not really meant to harm or injure because it was a weak kind of an explosive.

On Saturday, three cars were damaged by glass shards after a molotov bomb went off in the open parking area of NAIA Terminal 3 at 9:35 a.m.

PNP's Aviation Security Group and National Capital Region Police Office are conducting the investigation.

The investigators are obtaining CCTV footage in the area, according to Fajardo.

MIAA suspects colorum taxi, porters

For its part, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said it is eyeing the possible involvement of colorum taxi drivers and porters in the incident.

“For the past several days, there were series of 'yung ginagawang crack down along Terminal 3, Kasi ang dami pong report dito ng mga kolorum, illegal individuals...mga illegal porter na nanghihikayat sa mga pasaherong dumadating na sumakay sa mga ganitong public transport,” said MIAA Assistant General Manny Gonzales in Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras.”

(For the past several days, there have been a series of crackdowns along Terminal 3. There were reports of colorum, illegal individuals, and porters that allegedly lure passengers into riding colorum vehicles.)

The PNP-Avsegroup said it already has three persons of interest, adding its follow-up operations would focus on the barkers outside the open parking.

“Controlled naman po natin. There shall be no cause for alarm here dahil itong insidente na ito nakikita naman natin na these are not the handy works of a terrorist kaya wag po tayo mabahala,” said Avsegroup Commander Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky.

(We controlled the situation. There shall be no cause for alarm here because these are not the handy works of a terrorist group.)

“Possible na malapit yung mga barkers na nambibiktima ng mga dumarating na pasahero. In the guise na giniguide sila, tumutulong sila para mapasakay yung mga pasahero natin na dumadating ay binibiktima nila so ito ay pinatanggal ng security natin jan sa area. 'Yun siguro yung possible na ginawa,” he said.

(The persons behind it may be the barkers who are preying on the arriving passengers. In the guise of guiding them, they help them hail a ride and then victimize them. That’s why the security team instructed them to leave the area.)—NB, GMA Integrated News
