LTO probes Tondo 'road rage' incident

The Land Transportation Office launched an investigation into the fatal road accident in Tondo, Manila, on Thursday involving a trailer truck and a delivery van.

As part of the investigation, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II on Saturday ordered LTO-National Capital Region Director Roque Verzosa III to issue a show cause order to the registered owner of the trailer truck and its driver, identified by the police as Marlon Ilas.

According to John Consulta's report on "24 Oras'' on Friday, the drivers had been involved in an altercation prior to the incident, which has been tagged as a case of road rage.

The victim was identified as Benjamin Bagtas, 47. He was pinned between the trailer truck and his delivery van before he was dragged a few meters on Road 10 in Barangay 105, Tondo.

Bagtas was rushed to the hospital but was eventually declared dead.

Ilas said he regretted what he did and was hoping that he would be forgiven.

The suspect is currently in police custody and facing criminal charges. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
