All the parishes in the Archdiocese of Manila were requested to set aside a day for prayer and fasting for peace and reconciliation for people affected in the Israel-Hamas war.

"In solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land, we request that our parishes and communities gather our people for prayer like the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament/Holy Hour and the praying of the rosary on October 17, 2023 or any day your community decides," according to the circular signed by Vice Chancellor Fr. Carmelo "Jek" Arada, Jr.

The call is in consonance with the call of Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Pierbattista Cardinal Pizzaballa for prayers.

Cardinal Pizzabella,  in a circular, underscored "the need to pray [and] to turn our hearts to God the Father."

"Only in this way we can draw the strength and serenity needed to endure these hard times, by turning to Him, in prayer and intercession, to implore and cry out to God amidst the anguish," he said.

A special prayer, prepared by the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, will be distributed to the parishes. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
