Marikina traffic rerouting, advisory for Undas 2023

Marikina City government will be implementing a rerouting scheme to avoid traffic build up, particularly in Loyola Memorial Park, in preparation for the number of people going to cemeteries to remember their departed loved ones on All Saints Day.

In a Facebook post, the local government unit said A. Bonifacio Avenue and Sumulong Highway will be one way from October 31, 12 noon, to November 2, 12 midnight.

It added only eastbound vehicles will be allowed to use Barangka Fly-over to Marikina Bridge going to Marikina City proper.

Marikina advised the public to take the following alternate routes:

  • All vehicles going to Loyola Memorial Park from Barangka Fly-over going to A. Bonifacio Avenue should take the left lane to enter Loyola Memorial Park Gate 2.
  • All vehicles going to the city proper should take the right side of the road.
  • All vehicles from C-5 By-Pass Road or Marcos Highway which will use Riverbanks Avenue should exit Riverbanks Avenue and Bonifacio Avenue to go to the city proper or Loyola.
  • All vehicles from Loyola which will exit through Gate 1 may turn right to Don Gonzalo Puyat street, Paspasan street, and Chorillo St. turn right to A. Bonifacio Avenue going to Quezon City.
  • All vehicles going to Quezon City from the city proper may use J.P. Rizal street going to Marcos Highway.

To maintain peace and order and ensure the safety of the public, an Incident Command Post will be set up in Loyola Memorial Park and other cemeteries in the city such as Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish Cemetery, Holy Child Cemetery, Aglipay Cemetery, and Barangka Public Cemetery.

The command post will have standby emergency medical teams, public safety operatives, health stations, ambulance, police and fire fighters.

Marikina City urged the public to refrain from climbing or going over the tombs, bringing bladed weapons, and bringing alcoholic drinks, among others.

Those going to the cemeteries were also advised to bring umbrella and rain gear to protect them from the sun or rain and wear face mask.—AOL. GMA Integrated News
