More than 20 motorists intercepted for entering EDSA Busway
The Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) intercepted more than 20 motorists on Thursday for illegally entering the EDSA Busway.
Among those who were issued citation tickets were a government employee, six policemen, two military personnel, and three drivers of four-wheeled vehicles, Emil Sumangil reported on "24 Oras.''
A motorcycle was impounded after the driver failed to present his official receipt or certificate of registration (OR/CR).
The erring drivers were issued a temporary operator's permit while their licenses were confiscated.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) previously announced stiffer penalties would be imposed on motorists who were illegally using the EDSA Busway.
Under MMDA Regulation No. 23-002, the increased fines are the following:
- First offense – P5,000
- Second offense – P10,000 plus one month suspension of the driver’s license, and being required to undergo a road safety seminar
- Third offense – P20,000 plus one-year suspension of the driver’s license
- Fourth offense – P30,000 plus recommendation to the Land Transportation Office for revocation of the driver’s license
