Newly elected barangay councilwoman shot dead in Pasay

An incoming barangay councilwoman (kagawad) in Barangay 37, Pasay City was fatally shot by motorcycle-riding suspects.

According to a "24 Oras" report by Dano Tingcungco on Tuesday, outgoing treasurer and recently elected kagawad Lina Camacho was shot twice through a glass door of the barangay hall at around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

“According sa ating SOCO, isa lang yung tumama. So sa likod, tumagos sa leeg. Yung pangalawang bala na ipinutok ay tumama sa railings ng glass door,” said Police Major Christel Carlo Villanueva, Pasay Police Substation 1 Commander.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but died several hours later.

The driver of the motorcycle was immediately arrested but the gunman remains at large.

“Bangag po yung tao. Kagabi, we cannot really talk to him properly. Inaantay namin na mahimasmasan,” said Pasay Police chief Police Colonel Mario Mayames Jr.

“Ito yung di natin tinutulugan. Binigyan kami ng maraming info ng driver, pinuntahan natin lahat pero false information lahat,” Mayames added.

Police are investigating a possible person of interest and looking into both politics and personal issues as possible motives of the crime.

“Marami siyang pinautangan na di makabayad. If we look at sa politics, yung mga nanalo is sila pwede barangay chairman niya and wala naman siyang nakakaaway na kagawad na nakasagutan,” he added.

Barangay officials and the victim’s family were unavailable for comment.—RF, GMA Integrated News
