Single ticketing system launched in San Juan City

The San Juan City on Wednesday launched the single ticketing system as part of the establishment of a uniform policy on traffic violations and penalty system in the whole of Metro Manila.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, who is also the president of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said they will now fully implement the single ticketing system in the city six months after its pilot run in May.

“Mahalaga ang single ticketing system sapagkat dati, kung tayo ay nahuhuli dahil sa anumang traffic violation, unang-una kinukuha ang ating lisensya. Ngayon, wala nang kinukuhang lisensya sa kabuuan ng Metro Manila,” he said.

(The single ticketing system is important because before, if we were caught for any traffic violation, our license was confiscated. Now, no license will be confiscated in Metro Manila.)

“Dati, kung na-ticketan ka at kinuha ang lisensya mo, kailangan mo pang pumunta sa city hall ng lungsod kung saan kayo nahuli para lang tubusin ito at magbayad ng multa. Ngayon, hindi na ‘yan kailangan,” he added.

(Before, if you were given a traffic ticket and your license was confiscated, you had to go to the city hall of the city where you were caught just to redeem it and pay a fine. Now, that is no longer necessary.)

During the event, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) also turned over 30 handheld devices to San Juan City that will be used to issue violation tickets to erring drivers who will commit the 20 common traffic violations.

The Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023, which will serve as the guideline for the system, includes penalties for the following traffic violations:

  • Disregarding traffic signs
  • Illegal parking (attended and unattended)
  • Number coding UVVRP
  • Truck ban
  • Light truck ban
  • Reckless driving
  • Unregistered motor vehicle
  • Driving without license
  • Tricycle ban
  • Obstruction
  • Dress code for motorcycle
  • Overloading
  • Defective motorcycle accessories
  • Unauthorized modification
  • Arrogance/discourteous conduct (driver)
  • Loading and unloading in prohibited zones
  • Illegal counterflow
  • Overspeeding

The fines for these violations range from P500 to P5,000, according to the MMDA. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
