Man nabbed for alleged rape of 14-year-old niece for 5 years

The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested a 34-year-old call center employee for alleged repeated sexual abuse of his 14-year-old niece.

According to a "24 Oras" report by Emil Sumangil on Wednesday, the victim’s mother claimed that she had no idea that her brother-in-law had been raping her daughter for the past 5 years.

(Christmas, New Year, that’s what he often does to her. Then, if it’s the suspect’s birthday, he molests her too. When I worked as a lady guard, while I was on night shift… he still molested her, and she didn’t tell me.)

“Ang rape ay naganap since 2017. During that time, I think 9 years old pa lang ang edad niya noon,” added Eastern Police District Director Police Brigadier General Wilson Asueta.

(The rape happened since 2017. During that time, she was only 9 years old,)

Asueta said the suspect faces charges of 4 counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault in relation to Republic Act No. 7610.

The victim’s mother stated that she never expected the abuse as the suspect acted fatherly towards the victim and supports her education. She also said that there are six families living in one house.

While the suspect had apologized, the victim’s mother is determined to press charges.

(I still want him to suffer because it affected my daughter… Her behavior changed. She became irritable, a little something from her siblings and she already shouts.)

Meanwhile, Asueta warned parents to always be vigilant in caring for their daughters to avoid similar instances.

(We have to isolate our daughters, even when sleeping, they have to have privacy. We have to talk to our daughters in their daily lives, what’s going on? Don’t entrust them to your male colleagues.)

The suspect has yet to give GMA Integrated News a statement regarding the allegations. — Jiselle Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
